Discover MEtime, a world of wellbeing and fitness to motivate and inspire

Just the colour of beetroot is enough to make us feel festive. With that beautiful deep red colour, it is guaranteed to brighten any dish or salad. But it's benefits are far wider reaching than just adding a splash of colour to your meal. Beetroot is a treasure trove of health affirming goodness! They come in many colours including white and orange, but beetroot is best known for it's deep reddish/purple variety. Most people tend to buy the pre-prepared beetroot, but if you're lucky enough to own a juicing machine, these roots may well become your best friend.  Not only can you eat and juice the earthy roots, but the leaves also have many beneficial nutrients too.  High in Vitamin C and Zinc, two powerful immune boosting nutrients, the mighty beet can also help to rid sugar cravings, detox the liver and gall bladder, cleanse your intestines, improve your mood, provide instant energy, and if taken regularly, can also help to increase physical stamina.

As delicious as eating beetroot is, the quickest and best way to gain all the goodness is through juicing.  When we eat vegetables it takes 3-5 hours for the body to break these down, but taking them in juiced form, this time reduces to just 10-15 minutes for your body to start benefiting and absorbing all the nutrients.  Where possible, try to use organic vegetables to get the maximum benefit from your juicing.

1 small beetroot

8 celery stalks

3 carrots

1/2 inch fresh ginger root

1 large apple

Chop all to fit into your juicer and then juice all ingredients and drink immediately.
