Achoo! Bless you! Oh dear you've got the flu! Check out our immune boosting advice so you can help ward off unwanted illnesses at one of the busiest times of the year.....
Hand in the chocolate tin again? Glass of wine in the other hand? Eating our way through higher amounts of processed and sugary foods and drinking more alcohol than usual can deplete our bodies of natural immune boosting nutrients we often get from our daily diet. This can increase the risk of catching winter cold and flu viruses that are often around at this time of year. Being mindful of your fruit and veg intake will help your body to continue to gain the nutrients it needs to support your immune system and help ward off unwanted illnesses at the busiest time of the year when you least want to be laid up in bed poorly.
Sticking to the recommended 7 portions of fruit and vegetables per day is best, but if you find it tricky munching your way through a plate of vegetables and salad, try juicing it instead. Juicing helps the body to absorb the nutrients from the vegetables quicker so your body benefits much faster.
Check out our favourite Matcha Green Juice recipe below.
1/2 bunch kale
1/2 bunch celery
1 medium cucumber
1 thumb sized knob of fresh ginger
1 green apple
1 teaspoon matcha green tea powder (optional)
1. wash all vegetables and roughly chop so they fit in your juicer
2. juice all vegetables
3. mix the matcha powder in a little water until fully dissolved and mix into green juice
Matcha green tea powder is an optional extra but it has such high levels of antioxidants that just one serving will give you almost your whole daily antioxidant needs. This added to your green juice will make it incredibly healthy and is a great energy boost too!
